Occupational therapists are health professionals who use selected activity to prevent and overcome many physical, emotional or social disabilities in people of all ages.

Their objective is to work with their patients to promote, maintain and/or restore functional independence in daily living skills.

The implementation of OT interventions therefore has a direct effect on the health, personal autonomy and quality of life of people.

At Health Central the primary focus of our occupational therapists is on the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of further musculoskeletal disorders.

Who can benefit from Soft Tissue OT?

Soft Tissue treatment will benefit anyone and everyone! For example, our therapists treat a wide variety of clients who may be experiencing:

  • Sporting or workplace injuries
  • Headaches / migraines
  • Muscular or joint pain
  • Arthritis

We also provide treatment and guidance for those athletes wanting to enhance their sporting performance by optimising their musculoskeletal function.

What to expect when you come in?

Initial sessions often start with a detailed case history, followed by the administration of various orthopaedic and musculoskeletal assessments. Once your therapist has developed a thorough understanding of your presenting conditions and any impacting factors, they will work with you to develop an individualised treatment plan. Such a treatment plan may involve myofascial release, stretching and strengthening programs, activity-related recommendations and supplement advice.

Myofascial treatment focuses on releasing soft tissue structures through the application of pressure and stretching techniques. The flow chart below outlines the process in which myofascial treatment can lead to improvements in health and wellbeing.

01.

Structural Changes

  • Promotes blood flow and lymphatic circulation, bringing in nutrients & flushing out toxins.
  • Increases or restores nerve signals
  • Reduces swelling, scar tissue and adhesions at injury sites

02.

Mechanical Benefits

  • Relieves muscular tension
  • Restores muscle strength
  • Increases joint range of motion
  • Improves postural symmetry

03.

Overall Functional Impact

  • Increase your productivity and sleep
  • Improve athletic performance
  • Reduce risk of injuries
  • Overall healthier body systems

Why should you choose OT?

Occupational Therapists (OTs) have a holistic understanding of health and well-being. We know that health can be impacted by a range of factors, including person-related factors, our environment, and the type of activities people engage in regularly. OTs are also skilled in activity-analysis, which means they are able to identify the physical, mental and emotional demands of various activities, and match these with the abilities of the individual.

With this knowledge and unique approach to health care, OTs can provide therapy that best suits your lifestyle and goals. The overall aim is to allow you to participate in the activities that are meaningful and important to you, by assisting you to reach your optimal health and musculoskeletal function.
